Barcode Scanner Emulator
Keyboard Shortcuts
Barcode Scanner Emulator relies on one core concept: a configurable global shortcut that triggers a simulated scan wherever your cursor currently is.
The global scan trigger
This is the primary shortcut you configure in the app. When pressed, it types the configured barcode value into whatever field currently has keyboard focus, in any application, followed by an ENTER suffix if enabled. Because it's registered globally, it works outside the emulator's own window — that's the entire point of the tool.
Choosing a shortcut
Pick a combination that's unlikely to collide with shortcuts already claimed by your OS or other running applications. Combinations involving multiple modifier keys plus a less commonly used letter or function key tend to be safest. If a shortcut silently fails to trigger, another application has likely already registered it.
In-app navigation
Within the app window itself, standard OS conventions apply: Tab moves between fields, Enter activates the focused button, and Escape closes open dialogs. There are no custom in-app shortcuts beyond the configurable global scan trigger.
Verifying a shortcut works
Click into the Barcode Input Tester's scan area, press your configured global shortcut, and confirm the expected value appears with the expected suffix.
