Get the Windows Portable .exe asset from the latest release. Save it anywhere on disk; it runs directly without a separate install step.

First launch

Double-click the executable to launch. Windows SmartScreen may show a warning for unsigned or newly-published binaries the first time you run it; choose "More info" then "Run anyway" if you trust the source (verify you downloaded it from the official GitHub releases page).

Setting a global shortcut

Open the shortcut configuration panel and record the key combination you want to use to trigger a scan. Because the shortcut is registered globally with the OS, it works even when a different application, such as your POS software or browser tab, has focus — that's what makes it possible to trigger a simulated scan directly into the app under test.

Testing your setup

Click into any text field in another application, then press your configured shortcut. The barcode value should appear as typed characters. If nothing happens, check that no other application has registered the same global shortcut, which is the most common conflict on Windows.

To verify the output is exactly what you expect, trigger a simulated scan into the Barcode Input Tester in your browser.
